Today it has already become clear that after all the upheavals, which will have to go through our car market, and the country, the return to the old economy will not be. Therefore, we decided to fix what was the automotive market of the Russian Federation for such an indicator as a structure in size classes and types of cars. The benefit that there is a statistical base, which was published by AA Aahtostat, whose specialists considered how much and in which dimensional classes the Russians purchased cars for the year.

Considering the data on segments and size classes should pay attention to a number of interesting trends. The drying in the segment of «folk foreign cars» — vehicle-class cars (this is the Kia Rio models, VW Polo, Skoda Rapid, Hyundai Solaris, etc.). The indicator of the negative dynamics is still small, and it would not even be worth paying attention to it (-2.2% by 2018). It practically coincides with the general fall for last 2019 (-2.3%).

But there is a disturbing symptom — the dimension class with in Russia (or, golf class) is very strong. He asked for a whole 22.9% by 2018 and for the first time he lost its third place to cars of the senior segment of the size class D.

The reason is simple. Starting from the beginning of the current decade, cars classes were poured into the Russian market and there was a purely Russian phenomenon. Why buy Ford Focus, Toyota Corolla or Volkswagen Jetta, Kolya Class below, just smallerly less, but there is a significant gain in the price. This is the factors that submitted this dimensional class. One car of the golf class accounts for seven class cars. By the way, when the French concern Peugeot began producing its model 408 at the factory in Kaluga, no one could predict the long-term action of this trend. As a result, the position of this French brand, and its partner Citroen in the Russian market Achoe. This is what the wrong evaluation can cause.

Other dimensional classes on the Russian market does not make sense to consider due to their small number. In fact, they are microscopic and trends may be random. Nevertheless, it will still have to emphasize that the Russian car market holds on two pillars — dimensional class cars in and crossovers and SUVs (SUV). The latter accounts for more than 45% of the market, or 746.7 thousand cars. At the same time, this class of cars retains stability (Table 1).

The share of crossovers and SUVs today is high as ever. At the same time, this class of cars is not only the most numerous, but also has the widest range of cars with 135 models. AA Avtostat divided off-road parquet segment into four dimensional class. The most numerous and tank was the class SUV (C), submitted by 49 (!) Models and occupying a 42% off-road segment (311 thousand cars). In this class, such popular crossovers like Volkswagen Tiguan, Kia Sportage, Toyota RAV4.

The second most popular class of small SUV (B), which has 22 models and occupies 28% (224.8 thousand pieces) of the segment of off-road cars. In this class, the most popular crossover of the Russian car market Hyundai Creta, as well as Renault Duster and Lada 4×4.

The SUV class (D) has 28 models and takes 20% of the SUV market (140.3 thousand cars). This class has such sales leaders like Skoda Kodiaq, Toyota LC Prado, UAZ Patriot.

And the smallest class SUV (E). Nevertheless, it is the most «cash». Class leaders are very notable toyota LC200, Volkswagen Touareg, BMW X5. Such crossovers sold 71.8 thousand pieces, or 10% of the segment.

This is such a pre-crisis Russian market of 2019. What will happen on it further? We do not have a response yet.
